Tips on Setting up an E-Commerce Site
Setting up an Ecommerce site can be a daunting task. But with the right tools, it can be done quickly and easily.
Here are some of our tips to help get you started.
SETTING UP YOUR ECOMMERCE STORE
Before you start, understand how you want to set up your shop. Whether you want to use wordpress, wix, woocommerce or shopify, as examples.
For our sites we use word press as our website platform and woocommerce as our shopping platform.
Next, design your theme. You want your shop to have a theme across all pages.
Decide how yuu want to accept payments. Various methods can be sued such an EFTs, paypal and payfast.
Your woocommerce store will then need to connect to your payment account.
Things to remember:
(1) Ensure your store is mobile friendly
(2) Add a full description of your products and product images
(3) Add ratings where you have ratings
SET UP YOUR CATEGORIES
Before you start adding your products, first set up each product category. The categores make it easier for your customers to find your products and can be used to add to your shop page as opposed to every simple product.
To help your customers find your products, you can also add tags and attributes.
Dont forget to add a featured image and alt text attribute to your image,
Next you want to set up your products. To do this go to add products and add a product page for each product.
Select your category, add your product details and price and set up your featured image.
We have found woocommerce to be easy to use when it comes to adding your cart and checkout, but unless you have a woocommerce theme, it can be difficult to design your store.
We use elementor as our base plugin, which has been great for retail stores.
